Dr Rinat Khusainov
Biography
I received my MSc and PhD degrees in Computer Science from University College Dublin, Ireland, in 1998 and 2004.
Research interests
My research is in the area of Applied Artificial Intelligence (Applied AI). I am interested in using AI methods and tools for addressing business needs and pressing societal challenges.
Recently, I am looking at applications of AI in health technologies. In particular, I am interested in the use of sensors, AI, and data science for assisted living and wellbeing, also known as .
My other areas of interest include
- Machine Learning and Computer Vision;
- Information Retrieval and Natural Language Processing;
- Embedded Systems and IoT;
- Computer and Networks Security.
I have been actively involved in research and knowledge transfer (KTP) activities with industry. Current and past projects cover the areas of assisted living technologies for care homes and residential markets, smart sensors, audio/video switching and streaming, remote monitoring and control. I also carried out industrial consultancy projects in data management for very large-scale data storage systems and sensor characterisation for assisted living applications. I worked as a software engineer developing embedded data communication systems, and participated in European Commission funded industrial and academic project consortia.
Teaching responsibilities
My current and past taught subjects include computer networks, distributed systems, embedded and real-time systems, computer architecture, machine learning.
I lead and manage the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Cisco Networking Academy. The Academy contributes to the delivery of our undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum and continued professional development (such as Cisco CCNA CPD). I am a certified Cisco Academy instructor.
